• Partner with the Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting, banking and treasury operations, financial reporting, budgeting and financial analysis processes • Lead the accounting and financial close process for quarterly and annual financial statements • Ensure review of financial statements and disclosures for Statutory, GAAP and Tax accounting compliance • Perform GAAP financial reporting and monthly financial management and board/investor reporting • Coordinate audited financial statements and regulatory financial reports • Coordinate federal and state income tax reporting and compliance with internal resources and external tax advisors • Oversee financial statement analytical reviews for management, the board and investors • Research complex accounting issues and prepare technical accounting memos • Improve and automate processes; maintain accounting policies, procedures and documentation • Maintain relationships with internal and external auditors and the Iowa Insurance Division • Assist with external audits and regulatory examinations • Collaborate across the Company to maintain strong internal controls and implement audit recommendations • Support the design, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the ICFR program • Contribute to the annual budget and budgeting and forecasting activities • Build and maintain banking relationships and improve treasury efficiencies • Partner with the Controller to oversee accounting and financial systems • Lead initiatives to improve workflows, automation, data quality, reporting capabilities and systems controls • Collaborate with Information Technology on technology strategy, product design and review sessions
• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field • Ten years of progressive leadership experience in accounting and/or finance • Prior experience within the life insurance industry • Experience with statutory and GAAP accounting • Advanced knowledge of statutory accounting, GAAP accounting, financial planning, corporate taxes, cash management, and federal and state insurance regulations • Superior knowledge of strategic planning and automated financial and reporting systems • Advanced analytical abilities and problem-solving skills • Strong understanding of internal controls • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external customers • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, dynamic and deadline-driven environment • Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate financial information to executive leadership • CPA designation or CPA eligibility preferred • Experience implementing new accounting systems and process automation initiatives preferred
