📋 Description

• Use clinical coding knowledge based on Official Coding Conventions guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic • Assign ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 codes to inpatient encounters with the highest level of accuracy • Work closely with physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialists, quality staff, and patient finance staff • Support billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance • Ensure accuracy of DRGs • Extract core data into the HIM abstracting system and data warehouse repository • Facilitate accurate data for patient acuity, severity of illness, and quality outcomes

🎯 Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent • 5 years inpatient and outpatient coding experience in an acute care environment • Must complete coding proficiency evaluation • Extensive knowledge and understanding of MS-DRGs • Knowledge of disease process, clinical pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology • Must be physically located and authorized to work in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or Wisconsin • Close eye work involving computers, typing, reading, and writing • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and carry objects up to 35 lbs • Occasional to frequent standing and walking • Occasional sitting • Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, as required • Travel may be required
