• Develop and implement comprehensive local and state grassroots strategies and advocacy campaigns • Support federal campaigns and congressional champion building • Organize volunteers for federal activities • Write and disseminate volunteer emails, legislative alerts, talking points, and training curricula • Plan and manage Cancer Action lobby days and similar events, including virtual events • Maintain ACS CAN web pages, Facebook pages, and other social media accounts • Identify and develop volunteers with personal stories related to policy campaigns • Manage the volunteer structure across the assigned geography and fill vacancies • Apply Direct-Action Organizing principles to state legislative campaigns • Coordinate campaigns with coalition partners and regional and national teams • Establish and maintain strategic collaborations and relationships with organizations, elected officials, and staff • Lead electoral activity through Cancer Votes while complying with IRS and ACS CAN requirements • Attract, train, develop, communicate with, and recognize volunteers • Facilitate grassroots advocacy and train volunteers and staff • Maintain volunteer information in databases such as Salesforce • Drive volunteer fundraising and support fundraising events and national programs • Complete assigned administrative duties and follow ACS CAN policies and guidelines
• Bachelor's degree • Minimum of three years of relevant work experience • Political issues or campaign organizing experience strongly preferred • Experience attracting, developing, and engaging volunteers preferred • Fundraising experience is a plus • Experience using Salesforce, EveryAction, or similar tools is a plus • Experience or familiarity with Direct Action Organizing fundamentals is a plus • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, computer, and social media skills required • Strong organization and time management skills required • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently with minimal direction • Ability to work as a member or leader of a team • Ability to handle fast-paced, time-sensitive matters • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with legislative officials, diverse individuals, and communities • Ability to work across multiple venues and state political environments accurately and efficiently • Ability to use available technology to perform position responsibilities • Ability to travel by car, train, or plane as needed • May require up to 20% travel, including overnight and occasional weekend travel
