• Design, develop, and integrate mechanical components for solid rocket motor systems • Create CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for motor cases, nozzles, insulation systems, joints, and structural interfaces • Perform mechanical design integration of solid propulsion systems • Design mechanical systems, manage mass properties, and integrate sub-assemblies • Apply engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test mechanically functioning equipment • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports • Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements • Specify system components or direct product modifications to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications • Investigate equipment failures, diagnose faulty operation, and recommend actions to maintenance crews • Collaborate with structural, thermal, and propulsion analysts • Support the full product lifecycle from concept design and configuration development through manufacturing, assembly, and static fire testing • Maintain configuration control and resolve design issues • Provide technical support to manufacturing and test operations • May lead projects or project steps and act as a resource for less experienced colleagues
• Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience • Engineering degree required • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) • Knowledge of applied mechanics • Knowledge of design engineering • Knowledge of design optimization • Knowledge of design review • Knowledge of mechanical engineering • Knowledge of prototyping • Knowledge of requirements engineering/analysis • CAD software knowledge • Computer-aided engineering (CAE) software knowledge • Oral and written communication skills • Ability to meet deadlines • Interpersonal skills • Problem-solving skills • Analytical thinking skills • Ability to remain stationary at a desk and/or computer for extended periods • Ability to move regularly throughout GD-OTS facilities • Ability to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery • Up to 25% travel likely
