📋 Description

• Defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda • Render opinions on liability, damages, and value at the Claims Department’s request • Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery • Conduct depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath • Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable • Travel as required to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences

🎯 Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of related litigation experience • Experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury litigation • Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED • Admission to the New York Bar REQUIRED • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York • Must meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirements where applicable • Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences • Ability to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally • Ability to follow complex instructions and resolve or facilitate conflict resolution • Strong organization, priority-setting, and multitasking skills • Ability to learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information • Professional communication in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence/email • Civil litigation experience preferred • Insurance defense-related litigation experience preferred • GEICO will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position
