📋 Description

• Set the multi-year platform architecture across ingestion, streaming, orchestration, transformation, and serving • Decide what to build, buy, deprecate, and the sequencing of platform investments • Determine whether streaming remains an analytics pipeline or extends to production and model evaluation paths • Define interfaces, service boundaries, and data contracts between organizations • Establish data quality, freshness guarantees, dataset tiering, and accountability models • Set the platform economics framework for storage, compute, reservations, orchestration, and responsible consumption • Define the self-service strategy and guardrails for Analytics Engineering and Data Science • Establish standards for testing, CI/CD, observability, schema governance, and infrastructure as code • Chair Architecture Review and act as decision-maker for cross-team, multi-system, and cost-impacting changes • Partner on ML/Data Science readiness, HIPAA and PHI compliance with Legal and Security, and infrastructure hardening with DevOps • Create ADRs, design documents, and RFCs as the written technical record • Mentor Staff and Senior engineers through design review and hands-on pairing • Write and review production code • Participate in platform-level P1 incidents and drive systemic fixes

🎯 Requirements

• 12+ years building and owning data platform architecture • Evidence of setting technical direction for organizations not managed directly and achieving adoption through credibility • Experience defining the boundaries of architectural authority • Deep GCP and BigQuery expertise • Operational fluency in AWS, including EKS • Experience with dbt, Airflow/Astronomer, Kafka/Confluent, Databricks/Spark, Fivetran, and reverse ETL or activation platforms such as Hightouch • Production-scale event streaming experience, including Schema Registry, data contracts, consumer lag management, and delivery semantics • Data governance and compliance experience in a regulated environment, including HIPAA, PHI handling, data classification, access controls, audit logging, and GDPR • Terraform or equivalent • Strong Python and SQL • Strong technical writing, including design docs • Preferred: Databricks, Unity Catalog, and Delta Lake at scale • Preferred: CDC patterns and Flink for real-time processing • Preferred: PySpark and SparkSQL • Preferred: BigQuery-to-Databricks Lakehouse or equivalent warehouse migration leadership • Preferred: MLOps partnership experience • Preferred: Go or Python service development for Kafka producers and consumers • Preferred: Direct-to-consumer healthcare or telehealth experience with HIPAA and GDPR obligations • Preferred: SOX compliance controls in data engineering • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction for any employer
