📋 Description

• Own the design lifecycle for a defined Ignition platform product area, including research, grooming, validation, and iteration • Produce and communicate high-quality, production-ready design work independently • Consider holistic user experience and all potential states, including errors, successes, and dead ends • Apply Inductive Automation’s design systems and propose improvements • Contribute to medium-to-large cross-team or cross-department features • Negotiate scope and technical tradeoffs with engineering and product partners • Lead design reviews and provide specific, actionable peer feedback • Escalate unclear problems and drive progress when requirements are incomplete • Take on unowned work and improve shared tools and processes • Contribute to design direction and identify conflicts with broader product goals • Stay current on design tools and paradigms and share useful practices • Mentor junior designers through feedback and pairing • Contribute to hiring when requested • Partner with product management and engineering to translate defined problems into design solutions and carry them through production • Help create solutions for industrial automation customers by improving operational efficiency and integration

🎯 Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional product design experience • Portfolio demonstrating shipped, production work, including research, iteration, and final outcomes • Experience designing complex, stateful software end-to-end • Excellent communication skills, including leading design reviews and cross-functional sessions • Ability to define solutions when requirements are incomplete and escalate when ambiguity prevents progress • High proficiency in at least one technical area, such as data visualization, complex workflows, or accessibility • Proficiency in Figma, including building and maintaining design systems and managing complex components across multiple projects • Ability to rapidly prototype using mockups, interactive prototypes, and wireframes • Experience collaborating with engineering and stakeholders on multi-person or cross-team projects, including negotiating scope and technical tradeoffs • Must live within the United States • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States • Must not require employment visa sponsorship • Preferred but not required: Bachelor’s degree in Design or related field • Preferred but not required: Experience independently conducting user research • Preferred but not required: Experience experimenting with generative AI in design practice
