📋 Description

• Build state-of-the-art machine learning systems combining economic theory with machine learning algorithms • Design, develop, and deploy machine learning solutions for economic challenges in Instacart’s marketplace • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to understand business needs and create impactful solutions • Refine and advance algorithms and models to improve operational efficiency • Share learnings, best practices, and research across Economics team domains • Work on marketplace incentives, pricing, product placement, matching and logistics, online advertising, uplift and long-term value modeling, and causal inference

🎯 Requirements

• Graduate Degree (Masters or PhD) in Economics or a closely related field • Blend of economic theory, applied econometrics, and business skills • Experience applying causal inference methodologies to observational and experimental datasets • Understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques • Strong programming skills in Python • Fluency in SQL and Pandas • Experience with machine learning tools such as scikit-learn and XGBoost • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Self-motivation and strong sense of ownership • For Senior Machine Learning Engineer I: 1-3 years of industry experience in a similar position • For Senior Machine Learning Engineer I: experience putting machine learning models into production environments • For Senior Machine Learning Engineer I: experience with cloud computing and related ML infrastructure • Preferred: PhD in Economics or closely related field focused on data-intense problems • Preferred: intern experience in related roles • Preferred: experience with large language models and generative AI • Preferred: experience with uplift modeling, contextual bandits, and/or heterogeneous treatment effect estimation
