📋 Description

• Report to the VP of Data • Own the data platform supporting the business's current and future data needs • Define and own architecture, technical standards, and coding practices for the data platform • Evaluate and recommend data technologies and contribute to the platform roadmap • Optimize platform performance and cost • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines in Python using AWS Glue • Drive analytical data models and the semantic layer for self-service BI and advanced analytics • Build integrations between the data platform and internal or third-party systems • Contribute backend code where needed • Set technical standards for AI-assisted development practices across the data team • Author, optimize, and maintain complex SQL and database objects in Redshift • Operate and optimize AWS data infrastructure, including Glue, S3, Redshift, and Athena • Own data quality, governance, and platform reliability, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response • Support AI/ML initiatives through data preparation, feature engineering, and model monitoring • Raise team technical standards through code review, architecture decisions, and hands-on mentorship • Partner with clinical operations, product, finance, and engineering to turn ambiguous business questions into reliable, documented data products

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a hybrid data/software engineering role • Strong data or software engineering background, including ability to write, test, debug, and ship production code independently • Experience with code review and CI/CD practices • Expert-level Python experience • Expert-level SQL, including window functions, CTEs, recursive queries, and query optimization at scale • Hands-on experience with cloud data services, ideally AWS • Experience building and operating production data pipelines on cloud data services • Production experience with a cloud data warehouse, ideally Amazon Redshift • Experience with schema design and performance tuning • Experience handling sensitive data such as PHI with appropriate access controls and compliance practices • Understanding of star/snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions, and event-based models • Experience setting technical direction and standards • Professional use of AI-assisted development tools with sound judgment on correctness, security, and review • Ability to explain technical trade-offs and risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives • Preferred: professional-level cloud certification or equivalent hands-on experience • Preferred: experience in health tech, digital health, or another regulated industry • Preferred: experience with CI/CD for data assets, such as dbt CI or Great Expectations • Preferred: background contributing to AI/ML features • Preferred: Terraform or CloudFormation, Docker, ECS/EKS • Preferred: startup or high-growth environment experience • Preferred: experience improving developer experience and productivity • Preferred: Apache Spark, Airflow, or equivalent • Preferred: familiarity with BI platforms and semantic layers such as Looker/LookML • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
