📋 Description

• Lead the technical delivery of roadway and transportation projects from planning through final design • Oversee project quality through QA/QC reviews of plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates • Manage project teams, schedules, budgets, and staff utilization to ensure successful project execution • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers • Develop scopes of work, fee estimates, and support proposal pursuits • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including IDOT, counties, municipalities, and other transportation agencies • Support business development efforts and identify opportunities for growth within the Chicago market • Participate in professional organizations, industry events, and client meetings to strengthen Michael Baker’s presence in the region • Foster a collaborative team environment focused on quality, innovation, and professional development

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field • 10+ years of transportation engineering experience • Professional Engineer (PE) license required • Demonstrated experience leading roadway or transportation design projects • Strong knowledge of IDOT design standards, project delivery processes, and transportation engineering best practices • Excellent leadership, client management, communication, and team-building skills • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously • Experience serving as a Technical Manager, Project Manager, or Department Lead within a consulting environment preferred • Familiarity with OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and other transportation design software preferred • Experience delivering projects for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, municipalities, and local agencies preferred • Design-Build and alternative delivery experience preferred • Proven success in business development, proposal support, and client relationship management preferred • Michael Baker International performs pre-employment substance abuse testing and background checks
