📋 Description

• Promote a culture of safe work practices through effective leadership • Facilitate post-damage investigations and prepare reports to identify root causes • Provide corrective-action recommendations and ensure actions are completed and documented • Drive damage-prevention strategies and evaluate their effectiveness • Educate associates and contractors to improve skills and competencies • Conduct training-needs analyses and develop the damage-prevention training program with the director of safety and damage prevention • Coordinate damage-prevention and safety training programs, including excavation safety, OSHA-10 and OSHA-30, competent person, NESC safety, directional drilling, utility locating, and temporary traffic control • Coach and teach regulatory, compliance, and Metronet safety training in classroom and onsite settings • Implement safety training, policies, procedures, and programs to improve safe behaviors and control hazards • Conduct, facilitate, and review damage-prevention and safety audits and inspections • Provide worksite training as needed • Advise management on safety, OSHA rules and regulations, risk management, and company policies • Identify, document, and recommend resolutions for hazardous conditions • Manage inventory and distribution of safety equipment and PPE, including tracking and calibration • Participate in safety meetings and joint audits with internal and external management • Provide ongoing training and feedback on observations, competency checks, compliance activities, and documentation • Create workable plans, monitor metrics, and analyze data to achieve results • Travel extensively for onsite visits and inspections

🎯 Requirements

• BS/BA degree in related field • Three (3+) years of related experience in damage prevention, utility operations, construction, or EHS, including experience conducting investigations • Working knowledge of Federal, state, and local safety and OSHA standards • Certification in Rescue/CPR, OSHA, confined space, MOT, and defensive driving standards preferred • Willingness to obtain train-the-trainer certifications, OSHA and other training certificates, and licenses as necessary • Experience conducting training in group and individual settings • Ability to operate and maintain company vehicle/equipment safely and professionally • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. • Extensive experience conducting detailed incident/damage investigations, reporting, and root cause analysis • Knowledge of excavation equipment, damage prevention standards, state and federal damage prevention regulations, and state one-call laws • Professional credentials such as CSP or CIH and/or health and safety experience in a telecommunications outside plant environment preferred • Ability to read and interpret business documents, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, government regulations, OSHA, ANSI, and DOT requirements • Ability to multitask in a constantly changing environment • Results-driven and detail-oriented, with ability to anticipate needs and proactively identify solutions • Influence, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills • Solid interpersonal management skills and ability to build trust across the organization • Ability to communicate and obtain buy-in for damage prevention and safety vision, strategy, and local plan • Ability to challenge the status quo and develop effective implementation plans and timelines • Ability to travel 50–75% for work purposes • Must have and maintain a valid vehicle driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
