📋 Description

• Monitor the Metronet DWDM, IP, and Ethernet networks continuously 24x7 • Monitor network management systems for alarms, performance metrics, and potential security threats • Report, document, and track alarm events • Log and manage trouble tickets, assign priorities, and update resolution details • Identify and respond to network alerts, troubleshoot issues, and take corrective actions to minimize downtime • Communicate network event alerts and updates to internal teams and executives • Analyze network logs and system behavior to diagnose root causes and implement solutions • Escalate issues to higher-level support teams and management when necessary • Coordinate repair activities for fiber cuts and other network-impacting events • Work with engineering groups and vendors on restoration efforts • Coordinate network troubles, outages, and projects with internal departments, telecommunications providers, and vendors • Perform and interpret RFC2544, Y.1564, Y.1731, and BER tests • Provide second-level support for Tier 1 groups and manage internal and external escalations • Troubleshoot complex IP routing and switching issues across the service provider network • Investigate packet loss, packet storms, duplicate VLANs, duplicate IP addressing, routing anomalies, and Layer 2/Layer 3 issues • Work directly with Cisco, Nokia, and Adtran equipment vendors to resolve advanced technical issues • Support engineering-level troubleshooting as the highest technical escalation point within the NOC • Perform contact center duties in a high-volume environment • Perform other duties assigned by the NOC Management team

🎯 Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred but not required • Vendor certifications preferred but not required • CCNA, JNCIA, MEF, or ALU certifications are a plus • 4–7 years of telecommunications industry experience; minimum required: 4 years • Strong preference for service provider networking experience in ISP, carrier, or telecommunications environments • Job-specific experience or training in Data or Transport disciplines • Proficiency in at least 75% of Data skills, 75% of Transport skills, or 60% of total listed skills • Extensive Ethernet/TCP/IP networking experience • Detailed understanding of IEEE and ITU standards for FTTH and GPON technologies • Knowledge of SNMP, UDP, IMAP, DNS, RADIUS (AAA), LDAP, NTP, and SMTP • Experience with MPLS and designing Layer 2 and Layer 3 private networks, including VPN programming and testing • Ability to design, build, program, deploy, and document IP services from a network core to multiple customer sites • Thorough knowledge of the OSI model, transmission protocols, and multiprotocol routing including VRF, VPN, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, VPLS, and VPRN • Alternatively, transport expertise including PON, GPON, dark fiber, CWDM/DWDM, OTN, ROADM, protection and switching methodologies, and transport-system upgrades • Willingness to work both independently and as part of a team • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. • Available Monday–Friday daytime business hours, with schedule subject to business needs • Participation in an on-call rotation is required • Available to work necessary overtime, including holidays and weekends
