📋 Description

• Own architecture design, delivery, and roadmap for one engineering team • Partner with Product to shape, commit to, and deliver the roadmap • Own engineering outcomes for cart, checkout, order, billing, and authentication systems across Managed Hosting and Managed Applications • Build understanding of customers, architecture, dependencies, integrations, and operational risks • Ensure long-term health and evolution of owned products • Write specifications, review pull requests, and ship real code changes • Run and promote daily use of AI-assisted engineering tools and practices • Scope and estimate work, name unknowns, manage monthly delivery cycles, and report status honestly • Clear cross-team engineering dependencies before they block delivery • Improve DORA performance by reducing review latency, build time, environment issues, handoffs, and approval loops • Require tests with every change, coverage gating on changed code, and evidence in pull requests • Make release go/no-go decisions based on evidence • Conduct one-to-ones, maintain growth plans, and provide direct feedback • Own hiring end to end • Manage on-call rotation, incident follow-up, toil reduction, and bus-factor risks

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years in software engineering, including at least one year leading engineers formally or informally • Hands-on technical fluency in Perl, PHP, React, and Vue • Experience with relational databases, including Postgres and MariaDB • Experience with commerce systems and payment processing integration • Currently hands-on and recently shipped code • Ability to review pull requests of AI-generated code and identify issues • Real, hands-on AI-assisted engineering experience with quantifiable impact • Evidence of making a team measurably faster • Knowledge of DORA metrics or an equivalent, including identifying bottlenecks and improving them • Experience delivering and modernizing software to committed dates through collaborative scoping and data-driven forecasting • Experience operating a production on-call rotation • Experience owning hiring end to end and maintaining a hiring bar • Experience leading engineers across time zones • Experience in managed hosting, cloud, or another high-availability service business is required
