📋 Description

• Conduct an independent technical review of a Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis • Evaluate whether fire hazards and potential fire-related accident scenarios have been adequately identified and analyzed • Review the fire protection strategy and its integration with the facility’s overall nuclear safety basis • Assess fire hazard analyses, combustible-loading evaluations, fire-area boundaries, and applicable fire scenarios • Evaluate preventive and mitigative controls credited for fire-related events • Review fire detection, alarm, suppression, water-supply, confinement, smoke-control, and emergency-response provisions • Determine whether fire protection systems and controls protect workers, the public, the environment, nuclear materials, and safety-related equipment • Evaluate the potential for fire impacts to multiple systems, redundant safety equipment, electrical cables, confinement boundaries, or the facility’s ability to reach and maintain a safe condition • Review the identification, classification, and functional requirements of fire protection-related safety structures, systems, and components • Assess fire barriers, penetration seals, separation features, and passive fire protection measures • Evaluate technical assumptions, methodologies, calculations, and conclusions supporting the fire protection portions of the safety analysis • Review compliance with applicable Department of Energy requirements, industry standards, building and fire codes, and NFPA standards • Identify technical gaps, inconsistencies, vulnerabilities, or areas requiring additional analysis or clarification • Prepare clear, traceable, and technically defensible review comments • Participate in remote technical meetings and comment-resolution discussions • Support resolution of technical questions concerning fire protection and nuclear safety • Prepare written findings, observations, recommendations, and review documentation • Complete assigned work within the established project schedule and authorized scope • Maintain independence, objectivity, and confidentiality throughout the review

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, or a related technical discipline • Extensive fire protection engineering experience within nuclear, Department of Energy, commercial nuclear, or other highly regulated facilities • Demonstrated experience reviewing nuclear facility safety-basis documents • Experience reviewing Preliminary Documented Safety Analyses, Documented Safety Analyses, fire hazard analyses, or comparable nuclear safety documentation • Working knowledge of nuclear facility fire protection requirements and applicable NFPA codes and standards • Experience evaluating active and passive fire protection systems • Knowledge of fire-related accident analysis and selection of preventive and mitigative controls • Ability to evaluate safety-related structures, systems, and components from a fire protection perspective • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, safety analyses, and other technical documentation • Ability to develop independent, objective, and technically defensible conclusions • Strong technical writing, analytical, and verbal communication skills • Ability to work independently and meet an accelerated document-review schedule • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and virtual collaboration platforms • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to meet applicable security and project-access requirements • Must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived organizational or personal conflicts of interest associated with similar projects or vendors • Shift will be dependent upon customer site discretion
