• Prepare construction documents, including plan and profile drawings, for overhead and underground electric distribution, fiber optic, and telecommunications facilities • Prepare make-ready work for joint-use projects • Assist with engineering and project cost estimates and execution schedules • Provide field support during construction • Perform quality reviews and follow the QA/QC process • Evaluate equipment loading and structural pole loading for cost-effective, safe, and reliable designs • Apply NESC, client, federal, state, and local standards and guidelines to engineering designs • Analyze field-collected data and imagery and update software packages for design implementation • Use client proprietary software and equipment in the engineering design workflow • Facilitate new attachment permitting processes as needed • Complete assigned work within project schedules and budgets • Communicate project status with management and engineering design solutions with clients • Provide documentation and support to accounting functions for project budgeting and accounting • Transcribe notes and use measuring devices to inspect and record field data • Attend client-site meetings and interact with the general public, including landowners and operators • Inspect and record equipment, construction situations, and rights-of-way • Communicate with coworkers and clients to determine optimal engineering design solutions • Perform primarily remote/office-based work, with fieldwork throughout the design process
• High School Diploma or GED required with 3+ years of experience in fieldwork or a construction environment, drafting, utility experience, or technical design • Associate Degree in engineering technology, construction, drafting technology, or related technical discipline with 0-2 years of experience, with interest in fieldwork, surveying or equivalent experience • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction, GIS, drafting, or related technical discipline with 0-2 years of experience is preferred • Candidates with experience with DDS and Katapult are strongly preferred • Prior utility design experience or make-ready design experience preferred • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics preferred • Working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction preferred • Experience in pole loading using Spida Calc, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, or Katapult, or other construction modeling software such as AutoCAD, is beneficial • Knowledge of utility or joint-use software such as SPANS, NJUNS, or IkeGPS is beneficial • Knowledge of utility distribution design and construction standards and industry practices • Ability to use design software packages • Familiarity with design and checking practices for engineering drawings and deliverables • Familiarity with safe work practices and PPE applications • Ability to keep project data organized from start to finish • Ability to prioritize work on multiple projects and communicate project statuses • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, design, and business enterprise software • Effective written and oral communication • Reasoning skills and ability to solve practical problems • Dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance • Ability to pass a fit for duty test • Ability to work from home and an office setting, as required • Ability to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test, including marijuana, and submit to random testing • Willingness to travel overnight or for extended periods based on project assignment • Ability to work in all weather conditions and in residential, commercial, and industrial areas • Ability to endure frequent driving, standing, walking numerous miles a day, navigating complex terrain, balancing objects up to 20 pounds, and performing fieldwork
