📋 Description

• Own one product area end to end, including the team, commitments, and production software • Lead by example on code quality, delivery rhythm, and engineer development • Partner with an embedded Product Manager • Build, test, ship, and operate team-owned services • Review pull requests and contribute hands-on code • Set code quality and review standards, including non-author review on all changes • Drive architecture standards with the Group Architect • Own commitments, named owners, dates, definitions of done, estimates, and re-forecasts • Keep systems of record current for transparent status • Run planning, refinement, standup, and retrospective ceremonies • Resolve handoffs across development, QA, DevOps, and Product • Manage external development partner contractors alongside the in-house team • Use agentic coding tools to audit code quality and improve efficiency • Manage engineers through one-on-ones, coaching, performance feedback, written expectations, recognition, and accountability • Resolve technical objections into supported alternatives with owners and dates • Ramp new engineers to independent contribution and support the team through change

🎯 Requirements

• Must possess all four required qualifications • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including status reporting and communicating difficult messages to executives and engineers • Experience making team delivery trustworthy through named owners, definitions of done, status tracking, and early re-forecasting • Experience managing senior, strong-willed engineers, including engineers more tenured or technically deeper than the manager • Experience retaining a team through a reorganization or leadership change • Hands-on software engineering experience before entering management • Ability to follow principal-level technical arguments and evaluate engineering tradeoffs • Two or more years as a front-line engineering manager, in addition to hands-on engineering experience • Buy-in on AI-assisted engineering is required • Experience with build-it, test-it, own-it, operate-it service ownership model preferred • Experience coordinating an external or offshore development partner preferred • Current hands-on ability with TypeScript, Java, Vue, React, AWS (ECS, Lambda, Aurora, DocumentDB, EventBridge, SQS, S3), PostgreSQL, Redis, SQL Server, and related technologies preferred • Experience with clean architecture, Domain-Driven Design, event-driven systems, or SOLID discipline preferred • Experience managing through reorganization, leadership change, or legacy-to-modern replatform preferred • Prior work in regulated industries such as legal, healthcare, or financial services preferred
