📋 Description

• Own one product area end to end, including the team, commitments, and production software • Lead by example on code quality, delivery rhythm, and engineering mentorship • Partner with an embedded Product Manager • Own services through building, testing, shipping, and operating them • Review pull requests and contribute hands-on code • Set and enforce code review and quality standards • Drive architecture standards with the Group Architect • Own team commitments, named owners, dates, definitions of done, estimates, and re-forecasts • Keep systems of record current for visible status • Run planning, refinement, standup, and retrospective ceremonies • Resolve handoffs across development, QA, DevOps, and Product • Manage external development partner contractors alongside the in-house team • Use agentic coding tools to audit quality and improve efficiency • Manage engineers through one-on-ones, coaching, feedback, written expectations, praise, and consequences • Resolve technical objections by driving supported alternatives with dates and owners • Ramp new engineers to independent contribution and guide the team through change

🎯 Requirements

• All four listed qualifications are required • Exceptional written and verbal communication, including status reporting and communicating with executives and engineers • Experience making team delivery trustworthy through named owners, definitions of done, status tracking, and early re-forecasting • Experience managing senior, technically strong-willed engineers, including someone who did not want to be managed • Experience leading a team through reorganization or leadership change with retention intact • Hands-on software engineering experience before becoming a manager • Sufficient technical depth to evaluate principal-level arguments, tradeoffs, constraints, architecture, and platform responsibilities • Two or more years as a front-line engineering manager, in addition to hands-on engineering experience • Concrete experience managing a team and describing shipped work and process changes • Not a first-time management role • Demonstrated delivery may substitute for any specific credential • Buy-in on AI-assisted engineering is required • Ability to use agentic workflows • Preferred: build-it, test-it, own-it, operate-it experience • Preferred: experience coordinating external or offshore development partners • Preferred: current hands-on ability with TypeScript and Java; Vue and React; AWS services including ECS, Lambda, Aurora, DocumentDB, EventBridge, SQS, and S3; PostgreSQL, DocumentDB, Redis, and SQL Server • Preferred: clean architecture, Domain-Driven Design, event-driven systems, or SOLID discipline • Preferred: experience managing reorganization, leadership change, or legacy-to-modern replatform • Preferred: regulated-industry experience such as legal, healthcare, or financial services
