• Perform testing and routine maintenance of transmission and distribution substation power equipment • Test electro-mechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relaying • Test pilot channel equipment, controls, and communications equipment • Read and interpret substation drawings, including single-line drawings, AC/DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layouts • Support writing procedures and test plans for maintenance and construction activities • Read and verify relay voltage and current inputs, metering, alarms, function switches, and local/SCADA operations • Calibrate relays and perform local and SCADA trip testing • Troubleshoot and repair substation relaying and control equipment • Commission new substations and associated power, relaying, pilot channel, controls, and communications equipment • Plan, schedule, and complete test activities efficiently and on time without service interruptions • Provide project technical support to Field Service personnel • Travel to client sites for approximately three weeks, with paid housing and a long weekend home
• Minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repairing substation relaying and control schemes • Experience desirable in substation design, protection and control engineering, substation construction, substation commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing • Knowledge of three-phase power systems, power system protection and control schemes, test equipment, and test equipment software • Experience using test equipment and tools/wiring • Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams • Basic test skills to perform the listed duties • Basic PC skills • Ability to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups • Ability to learn and apply clients’ switching procedures and safety measures • Ability to reference and complete assignments described in applicable specifications • Ability to perform regular field work indoors and outdoors • Strong interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook • Valid driver’s license and good driving record • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and writing, due to safety-related materials, documentation, and client interactions • Ability to travel to client sites for approximately three weeks at a time
