📋 Description

• Conduct decision-oriented analysis and intervention evaluations for neglected terrestrial invertebrate welfare • Run shallow intervention reviews and make defensible recommendations within fixed time budgets • Identify and interview experts when academic and gray literature is insufficient • Analyze production systems, economics, costs, and potential commercial viability at scale • Specify external analytical work and quality-assure contractor deliverables • Analyze published financial disclosures to assess company or sector trajectories • Scope, commission, and manage external contractors or consultancies • Decide when to stop external work that is not delivering • Organize coordination events and follow through on agreed actions • Write and present funder updates on project achievements, shortcomings, and improvements • Present work at conferences and build field relationships • Identify and evaluate new opportunities, running with promising ideas or ending ineffective ones • Exercise discretion over sensitive information • Manage contractors and external partners; no current line management of RP staff • Spend roughly half the time on farmed terrestrial invertebrates and half on wild invertebrates, with the balance shifting as opportunities change

🎯 Requirements

• Professional level of English required • Analytical judgment under time pressure • Ability to scope vague questions, identify critical assumptions, choose defensible methods, and deliver usable answers by deadlines • Experience specifying work for and overseeing contractors, consultants, agencies, or external teams • Quantitative reasoning and comfort building, interrogating, and explaining simple models • Ability to produce back-of-the-envelope calculations and express confidence using numbers and words • Clear written communication for non-specialist decision-makers • Comfort working with deep uncertainty and providing transparent, caveated, decision-useful answers • Sound judgment about handling sensitive information • Pragmatism and flexibility when priorities change • Commitment to truthseeking and research ethics • Commitment to improving the welfare of neglected animals, with openness to focusing on terrestrial invertebrates • Ability to work at least 30 hours per week; full-time preferred • Ability, ideally, to attend 4–6 work-related events per year, often requiring international travel • Desirable: techno-economic analysis, unit-economics modeling, or industry/market analysis • Desirable: interpreting company financial statements, statutory accounts, or investor disclosures • Desirable: invertebrate biology or entomology knowledge • Desirable: agricultural production systems, animal feed, crop protection, or waste management knowledge • Desirable: low- and middle-income country experience, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa or Southeast Asia • Desirable: grantmaking, due diligence, procurement, or contract management experience • Desirable: funder, grant-maker, or board reporting experience • Desirable: convening or facilitating multi-organization processes • Desirable: stakeholder mapping, scenario analysis, or SWOT skills • Desirable: proficiency with R or Python • Desirable: animal advocacy movement experience • Desirable: working proficiency in a language other than English • Desirable: experience overseeing projects in remote, distributed teams • Desirable: comfort working in an AI-forward workplace
