📋 Description

• Develop and manage a portfolio of current and potential donors, primarily foundations • Work with programmatic staff to build fundraising strategy and cases for support • Advance foundation relationships through strategic engagement, in-person and virtual visits, email, and telephone conversations • Identify, qualify, solicit, and steward approximately 40 new and prospective foundation accounts • Manage a pipeline of up to $2,000,000 involving gifts of five to six figures • Educate and engage donors on RMI’s clean energy program portfolio • Partner with Development Directors and Senior Managers on major, complex accounts • Research prospects, assess data, and develop cultivation and engagement strategies • Prepare meeting briefings, goals, roles, communications, and materials; coordinate with program and finance colleagues • Create proposals, timely reports, and cultivation materials with program teams • Translate technical information into accessible written and verbal communications • Encourage corporations and sustainability leaders to support RMI programs and initiatives • Use Salesforce to document relationship management, portfolio status, financial projections, and opportunity movement • Collaborate with Legal, Accounting, Finance, and Development teams to manage relationships and advance fundraising opportunities • Support Development and Strategic Engagement team objectives, meetings, task forces, and program meetings • Contribute to RMI’s Development and Strategic Engagement strategies and overall mission

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's degree in related field preferred • 5+ years work experience in nonprofit development • Track record of contributing to successful solicitation of philanthropic grants and gifts • 5+ years work experience managing foundation, institutional, or other complex external relationships • Track record of cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding significant corporate, philanthropic, sponsorship, grant, or partnership commitments • Experience managing proposal, grant, or partnership development processes involving multiple stakeholders • Experience writing successful grant applications, proposals, pitch materials, concept notes, or partnership narratives • Experience working successfully with top-level executives in a fast-paced environment • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time • Knowledge of and passion for RMI’s mission of transforming the global energy system • Knowledge of RMI’s mission and objectives and the principles and practices of non-profit organizations and foundations • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, Board members, foundation partners, community groups, and associated agencies • Ability to navigate a complicated funding environment and change course quickly • Ability to manage multiple complex projects, relationships, deadlines, and deliverables simultaneously • Strong judgment and discretion in managing external relationships, partner expectations, and reputational considerations • Writing sample relevant to a professional setting required with application
