• Complete loss control surveys, primarily in Michigan • Report on risks, exposures, and controls • Develop service plans and provide consulting services for larger accounts • Build and maintain underwriter and agency relationships • Manage loss control assignments to achieve risk improvement and ongoing account service • Focus on reducing line-of-business loss trends and improving safety programs • Analyze operations and exposures using established loss control practices and procedures • Assess risk attitudes and identify risk improvement opportunities • Make recommendations and enhance safety programs • Apply OSHA, NFPA, and DOT codes and standards in loss control survey work • Research businesses to prepare for loss control surveys • Evaluate lines of business using loss control evaluation tools • Provide risk evaluations supporting underwriting decisions • Identify and communicate solutions for complex risk issues • Travel to customer environments to conduct loss control surveys and assessments • Establish credibility with underwriters, agents, and insureds while meeting customer experience standards
• Valid and unrestricted driver’s license and acceptable driving record • Demonstrated ability to multitask and solve problems • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills • Analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound risk evaluation judgment • Intermediate organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities • Demonstrated understanding of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related business or technical work experience in occupational health and safety • Proficient use of core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages • Ability to travel up to 20% overnight, including travel by automobile and commercial airline • Ability to drive long distances without interruption, including four hours or more • Ability to safely access and navigate customer facilities, including occasional use of stairs, ladders, and elevated work areas • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor customer environments, including construction sites, areas near roadways, and manufacturing facilities • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform prolonged walking, standing, climbing, and navigation of customer work environments • Intermediate knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and DOT codes and standards • Experience applying loss control practices, processes, and evaluation tools • Continuing education, including one or more certifications such as CSP, ARM, CRM, OHST, or CHST
