📋 Description

• Hire the SDET team and define and hold the technical bar • Set framework standards, tooling decisions, and technical direction • Establish what “tested” means before features reach UAT and hold the team accountable • Own the AI-assisted test generation mandate and define patterns and guardrails for AI-generated tests • Model and enforce AI-fluent ways of working • Build and own automation across interactive web UI, API, and Kafka eventing surfaces • Prioritize API-level integration testing, then layer UI and Kafka eventing coverage • Make resilience a core design requirement through retry/backoff, deterministic test data, and eventual-consistency handling • Build regression test registers and own contract/API test tooling across services • Implement coverage dashboards to expose coverage gaps • Define load and performance test frameworks for engineering teams • Partner with SRE on the dedicated Test environment and production schema/config parity • Co-design a longer-term move to ephemeral per-PR environments for isolated load testing and PR-level E2E validation • Audit current testing practices and propose framework/tooling standards to R&D leadership • Establish the framework, wire it into CI, and automate critical order-flow paths • Scale standards across the SDET team and embedded product groups

🎯 Requirements

• You've built and owned a Playwright (or equivalent) framework from scratch • Experience wiring automated tests into CI/CD, using GitHub Actions or equivalent • Experience building or leading AI-assisted test generation from specs, acceptance criteria, or user stories • Ability to design contract and API testing tooling • Understanding of asynchronous, event-driven testing, including Kafka or equivalent, timing, eventual consistency, and non-flaky test design • Experience integrating coverage tools such as Coveralls or equivalent into team workflows • Comfort with CLI-native workflows and agentic coding tools • Previous experience hiring for a technical function and setting a high technical bar • Ownership and accountability • Strong communication with engineers, PMs, and executives • Delegation and team-member development • Ability to navigate ambiguity and build cross-functional alignment • Balanced judgment between innovation, quality, and delivery • Understanding of AI-assisted development and ability to guide adoption while maintaining quality and independent technical judgment • Strongly preferred: experience standing up a test engineering or QE function from zero, including hiring, at a company past its early scaling stage • Strongly preferred: load and performance testing framework design • Strongly preferred: partnering with SRE/infra teams on environment strategy and parity concerns • Nice to have: contributions to open-source testing frameworks or tooling • Nice to have: track record of growing SDETs or QE engineers into senior or technical leadership roles
