📋 Description

• Review emergency department medical records and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and applicable modifiers • Assign facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels according to client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines and charging methodologies • Analyze nursing, physician, ancillary department, and diagnostic service documentation for complete code assignment and charge capture • Apply official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer-specific requirements • Review accounts for procedural services and injections/infusions • Identify documentation deficiencies and communicate coding clarification needs • Maintain compliance with payer and organizational coding policies • Participate in coding quality reviews, audits, educational initiatives, and process improvement • Stay current on coding, reimbursement, and regulatory updates • Collaborate with coding leadership, auditors, and client representatives to resolve coding issues

🎯 Requirements

• Intermediate level experience • Ability to review emergency department medical records • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and applicable modifiers • Knowledge of facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels and client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines • Knowledge of the ACEP tool • Knowledge of official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and payer-specific requirements • Ability to identify documentation deficiencies and coding clarification needs • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational coding policies • Ability to remain current on coding updates, reimbursement changes, and regulatory requirements affecting emergency department facility coding
