📋 Description

• Performs day-to-day billing and follow-up activities within revenue operations for an assigned Patient Business Services location • Bills and follows up on government and non-government accounts • Documents claims billed, paid, settled, and follow-up activity in appropriate systems • Identifies and escalates issues affecting accurate billing and follow-up • Contacts payers directly regarding payments due and reviews and responds to mail correspondence • Communicates with hospital departments to clarify billing discrepancies and obtain demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information • Investigates overpayments, underpayments, credit balances, and payment delays; routes tasks to correct workflows to maximize reimbursement and ensure timely claim settlement • Researches claim rejections, makes corrections, takes corrective action, and/or refers claims for resolution • Follows up with patients and third-party payers on delayed payments and provides additional data as required • Prepares special reports as directed by the Supervisor Billing and Follow-Up • Assists with training and education of Billing and Follow-up Representative I colleagues and supports new systems, processes, and payers • Provides problem resolution for billing and follow-up issues • Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor • Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, Trinity Health's Integrity and Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures • Reports directly to a Supervisor Billing & Follow-Up • Works in a typical office environment that is well lit, temperature controlled, and free from hazards • Communicates frequently in person and by phone with people in all locations on product support issues

🎯 Requirements

• High school diploma or Associate's degree in Accounting or Business Administration or related field, and a minimum of three (3) or more years' of direct experience and relevant knowledge of revenue cycle functions and systems working within a hospital or clinic environment, a health insurance company, managed care organization or other health care financial service setting, performing medical claims processing, financial counseling, financial clearance, accounting or customer service activities or an equivalent combination of education and experience • Experience in a complex, multi-site environment preferred • Experience with critical access and/or rural health is highly desirable • Experience with denials billing, payment variance, and payor escalation is highly desirable • Experience with ambulatory surgery center billing and follow-up is highly desirable • Experience with the Epic and HST medical billing software is desirable • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel • Completion of regulatory/mandatory certifications and skills validation competencies preferred • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational abilities • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external customers • Accuracy, attention to detail and time management skills • Ability to work independently • Ability to perform billing and follow-up activities in a prompt and accurate manner • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment • Must possess a personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote Trinity Health's philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values • Must be able to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard; hearing for extensive telephone and in-person communication; ability to withstand eyestrain from prolonged CRT-screen use • Ability to organize work priorities, adapt to frequent changes, and work concurrently on varied tasks/projects in a potentially stressful environment
