📋 Description

• Direct accounting, financial reporting, cash management, budgeting, grant and contract compliance, tax coordination, and internal control functions across multi-entity nonprofit organizations • Report to the VP of Operations and client executive leadership on a fractional basis • Serve as a hands-on technical lead for nonprofit client financial operations • Review and approve client credit card transactions and vendor invoices daily and weekly • Review work papers, monthly close packages, and financial deliverables from outside accounting firms • Serve as primary liaison for annual financial statement audits • Configure, modify, and optimize client accounting systems • Design and run custom financial, program, and grant reports • Maintain fund-level accounting for net assets with and without donor restrictions • Track releases from restriction and reconcile donor-restricted balances to gift and grant agreements • Apply ASU 2018-08, ASC 606, and ASU 2020-07 for nonprofit revenue and contributed asset accounting • Administer federal, state, foundation, and corporate grant portfolios, including budget-to-actual reporting, drawdown and reimbursement requests, subrecipient monitoring, and Uniform Guidance compliance • Build and maintain functional expense and cost allocation methodologies • Prepare statements of functional expenses and support negotiated indirect cost rate agreements • Prepare audit-ready schedules and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards • Coordinate single audits and support Form 990 and Form 990-T preparation with external CPAs • Track endowments, spending policy calculations, and UPMIFA compliance • Lead cash flow projections, liquidity planning, operating reserve monitoring, debt covenant compliance, and line-of-credit management • Prepare annual budgets, program- and grant-level budgets, long-range forecasts, and scenario models • Deliver consolidated month-end reporting packages, finance and audit committee materials, KPI dashboards, and internal controls • Coordinate annual audit and tax workflows with external CPAs • Supervise internal, client, and third-party staff while deploying multi-agent AI workflows

🎯 Requirements

• AI-first mindset with deep, self-driven curiosity for AI and active integration of tools into workflows • Direct experience designing and deploying customized AI solutions, including Claude Artifacts, custom GPTs, tailored Projects, and specialized prompt skills • Experience leveraging and managing multiple AI agents concurrently • Proven Controller background serving tax-exempt organizations • Experience with fund accounting across restricted and unrestricted net assets • Experience managing federal and private grant portfolios, donor-designated funding, and multi-entity or affiliate structures • Operational leadership experience in process design, vendor and systems management, payroll and HR coordination, and cross-functional leadership • Deep proficiency with Sage Intacct, Excel, and Google Workspace • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, BILL, Ramp, Gusto or ADP payroll, Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud, Raiser's Edge, Bloomerang, and Expensify • Highly organized with experience leading fractional engagements, managing tight deadlines, multi-entity consolidations, and grant reporting calendars • Superior written and verbal communication skills for remote client engagement and presentations to executive directors, finance committees, and boards • 8–10+ years of progressive accounting leadership with significant tenure serving nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations • Mastery of GAAP for not-for-profit entities (ASC 958), fund accounting, multi-entity consolidations, federal award compliance, and functional expense allocation • Demonstrated expertise in Sage Intacct and hands-on skill in building custom GPTs, Claude Artifacts, and automated workflows • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required • CPA, CNAP, or Master's degree strongly preferred • Ability to work standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in local time zone; MST or PST preferred • Infrequent travel preferred, 1x per month or less, for initial client discovery assessments or strategic team meetings • Required attendance at the annual all-team retreat
