📋 Description

• Own core platform services and major migrations end to end, from proposal to production • Lead multi-month migrations of stateful, business-critical systems with no customer-visible downtime • Run containerized workloads and the delivery path that ships them, including orchestration, scheduling, GitOps-style deployments, progressive rollout and rollback, and service mesh • Bring Kubernetes practices to a team currently running Nomad and help determine appropriate scheduler usage • Architect and operate the AWS foundation, including multi-account governance, IAM, cross-account access, VPC, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, DNS, certificates, and egress paths • Operate identity, secrets, and encryption infrastructure, including workload identity, least privilege, SSO, OIDC, machine-to-machine credentials, Vault, and key ownership and rotation • Operate stateful systems including database upgrades and replication, message brokers, caches, time-series stores, backups, and tested restores • Build deep observability through distributed tracing, metrics, SLOs, and testing frameworks • Consolidate monitoring tools and define monitoring in code for effective on-call operations • Build infrastructure as code and developer tooling using Terraform, GitHub, Buildkite, Docker, Nomad, and internal tools • Bring manually created infrastructure under code, detect drift, and align code with running infrastructure • Build secure infrastructure and guardrails for AI-assisted development and internal-system access • Collaborate with experienced engineers on backend solutions, APIs, data pipelines, customer interfaces, and systems supporting grid decarbonization

🎯 Requirements

• GitHub account link required in application; applications without a GitHub account will not be considered • Must be authorized to work from the home location in the US or Canada • Voltus does not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires • Strong production software development experience in Go and/or Python • Roughly 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with several years in DevOps / SRE operating production systems • Experience owning deployments and being responsible for reliability and on-call • Track record of owning meaningful infrastructure projects end to end, ideally including stateful or business-critical system migrations with minimal disruption • Deep AWS experience, including multi-account organizations, IAM, cross-account access, VPC and network design, DNS, secrets management, and encryption key management • Understanding of provisioning versus configuration management and least privilege • Deep, hands-on Kubernetes experience in production, including upgrades, networking and ingress, RBAC, resource management and autoscaling, and debugging workloads under load • Strong infrastructure-as-code skills using Terraform or similar • Deep monitoring and observability experience, including metrics, alerts, dashboards as code, and distributed tracing • Comfort with Prometheus, Grafana, and log/search clusters such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch • Hands-on operational experience with relational databases and/or message brokers, including upgrades, replication changes, or restores • Comfort operating and improving systems not originally built by the candidate • Clear communication, documentation, mentoring, and cross-team coordination abilities • Genuine excitement about AI-assisted development; experience with or eagerness to use tools such as Claude Code, MCP, and agents
