WPHW serves all Wabanaki people and other indigenous and non-indigenous residents in Maine and reaches over 7,000 individuals annually.

📋 Description

• Plan and implement youth engagement, substance use prevention, suicide prevention, and youth leadership activities • Emphasize cultural and traditional knowledge in all programming • Prepare youth to use their voice to make an impact on their communities • Promote social and emotional skills, youth empowerment, and youth voice • Maintain a fun and safe environment where youth develop pride, optimism, and belonging • Collaborate with Kcitpahsuwet educators to develop outreach for youth living outside the community • Communicate with Tribal Departments, youth programs, schools, caregivers, and youth to develop inclusive programming • Design and deliver training for middle and high school youth and youth-serving partners • Implement substance use prevention strategies in youth programming • Coordinate and support Youth Councils, including recruitment, promotion, evaluation, relationship building, and support for youth leaders • Determine programming options to meet grant deliverables and develop new programming with the Kcitpahsuwet Manager • Plan and implement youth gatherings and community events • Contribute to website and social media initiatives and participate in outreach activities • Obtain required WPHW training and certifications • Maintain communication with the supervisor using email, calls/texts, Microsoft Teams, calendars, and other tools • Attend staff meetings and weekly check-ins • Complete reporting requirements on time • Participate in community-specific needs assessments • Collaborate with WPHW divisions on continuous quality improvement • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• University degree or college diploma in public health, health, education or a related field AND two years previous experience; OR 4 years of experience in public health, health, education, youth-serving profession, or a related field • Experience working with youth • Understanding of Social/Emotional Development • Willingness and ability to create inclusive programming and effectively use trauma informed approaches • Experience collaborating with Tribal communities and in school settings • Willingness to learn and facilitate adventure-based activities • Able to work outside in inclement weather • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently • Willingness to travel with some overnights for training, youth retreats, and events • Must have a valid Maine Driver’s License, be insurable on the organization’s auto insurance plan, and have access to reliable transportation • All candidates must pass a criminal background check • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnights • Able to lift and carry fifty pounds regularly
