📋 Description

• Define and communicate the architectural vision for key areas of the Retail Point of Sale (POS) platform • Ensure that the systems supporting new POS features are well designed, secure, scalable, observable, and resilient • Help teams design reliable experiences for checkout, hardware, network connectivity, payments, sales, inventory, and order workflows • Lead in-depth architectural analyses and identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce duplication, improve performance, and mitigate operational risks • Drive improvements in reliability, availability, latency, and recovery • Identify recurring sources of incidents, customer pain points, and out-of-project workload, then develop practical action plans • Establish and evolve engineering practices for design, testing, deployment, observability, incident management, and technical decision-making • Collaborate with Product, Design, Support, and other Engineering leaders • Mentor and guide senior engineers and technical leaders • Build alignment across teams without relying on formal authority • Contribute to the broader Retail Engineering organization • Shape the architecture and technical direction of Lightspeed’s Retail Point of Sale experience

🎯 Requirements

• Significant experience designing and developing mission-critical software systems in production environments • Demonstrated track record of technical leadership across multiple teams or a broad product area • Experience shaping architectures within large-scale, scalable systems with significant operational scale and complexity • Experience building and operating cloud systems subject to demanding reliability, security, and performance requirements • Proven ability to deliver key outcomes on tight timelines and with incomplete information • Strong systems-thinking skills • Experience working across multiple technology stacks or technical layers, including backend, web and mobile clients, databases, APIs, event-driven systems, and infrastructure • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • The judgment to facilitate technical discussions, manage disagreements, and guide groups toward clear decisions • A highly hands-on approach, with the ability to dive deep, prototype, review architectures, and contribute directly • Fluency in English as a working language is required • A criminal background check is required as part of the hiring process
