📋 Description

• Write and review production code across Marqeta's routing and processing stack • Drive initiatives that improve platform reliability, speed, and cost efficiency • Shape system design with the engineering manager and fellow engineers • Design data model changes, failure and degradation strategies, and blast-radius containment • Work on complex, mission-critical codebases • Raise engineering standards across the team • Mentor engineers and guide technical direction at Staff level • Support systems that route and authorize transactions across card networks and underlying cryptographic infrastructure

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience • Strong Java expertise • Strong fundamentals in concurrency and performance • Experience building reliable systems at scale • Ability to write system designs, defend them in review, and run systems in production • Experience in regulated, cloud-native, high-availability environments • Experience in payment processing, card issuing, or network integration such as JPOS or ISO 8583 • Cryptography or key management experience is a nice-to-have, including HSM, AWS Payment Cryptography, or KMS • Experience running systems across multiple regions, including tested failover, is a nice-to-have • Hands-on Kubernetes and AWS experience is a nice-to-have
