📋 Description

• Lead a new cross-office squad within the Origin Model Development team across Oxford and São Paulo • Write and review production code hands-on alongside the squad • Co-design module boundaries and reusable interfaces with the senior technical authority • Deliver new features and progressively migrate the mature Python codebase into a modern architecture • Drive delivery through board health, sprint cadence, stand-ups, retrospectives, velocity tracking, and blocker removal • Allocate work across the squad rather than along geographic lines • Protect the daily Oxford–São Paulo overlap window and use async-first written decisions outside it • Line-manage São Paulo-based engineers, including 1:1s, performance reviews, and development feedback • Help build the São Paulo team from close to zero and participate in recruiting • Coordinate with peer squad leads to distribute work and avoid duplicated implementations • Design features that serve multiple regions without premature generalisation • Contribute to AI-assisted engineering agent workflows and tooling

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience writing production code • Demonstrated technical leadership within a team • Strong Python engineering skills • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including clean module design and reusable interfaces • Judgment to decompose a complex codebase incrementally • Hands-on experience with modern Agile and Continuous Delivery practices • Direct communication skills and comfort working across organisational lines • Meaningful practical exposure to AI-assisted engineering across the development workflow • Full professional fluency in English and Portuguese, written and spoken • Experience leading or operating within a distributed or cross-office team (desirable) • Experience founding, launching, or being an early member of a new team, office, or company (desirable) • Strong expertise in energy system optimisation and numerical/mathematical optimisation, including LP or MIP (desirable) • Energy market or power systems domain knowledge (desirable) • Experience with GAMS and MOSEK optimisation solver • Deep expertise in energy system and numerical optimisation strongly preferred
