It is an international environmental law charity and NGO that uses legal action, policy advice, research, training and enforcement to protect people and the planet. Working across more than 35 countries with 300+ staff and 160+ active cases, ClientEarth brings litigation, law reform, and capacity-building to tackle issues such as air pollution, oceans, plastic pollution, chemicals, fossil fuels, finance and forest protection. It is registered as a charity and non-profit entity in multiple jurisdictions (UK, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Spain, US, China, Japan, Australia) and focuses on using the law to inform, implement and enforce environmental protections and hold governments and companies accountable.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement agreed strategic priorities in the region with the line manager • Provide country-level insights, identify risks and lessons learned, and align with regional and global strategies • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on legal and regulatory frameworks governing energy transition and biodiversity conservation • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, industry leaders, civil society organisations, and donors in Japan and Southeast Asia • Engage with partners across Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and the broader region • Contribute to ClientEarth’s early-stage nature strategy • Develop ClientEarth’s work at the intersection of climate and biodiversity conservation • Conduct legal, technical, and factual research and drafting • Present ClientEarth’s work internally and externally to stakeholders

🎯 Requirements

• Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English • Fluent (CEFR level C2) in Bahasa Indonesia or Filipino • Law degree or equivalent • Experience in energy law, policy, and regulation • Experience in biodiversity conservation law, policy, and regulation • Knowledge of the intersection between the energy transition and nature conservation • Ability to engage constructively with a range of external stakeholders and represent ClientEarth confidently in various forums • Pre-existing legal right to work in the countries listed at the top of the job advert
