📋 Description

• Build, maintain, and improve internal tools and third-party integrations supporting developer velocity and operational safety • Add features to internal employee admin portals • Develop custom tooling or evaluate vendor solutions to help feature teams execute database migrations safely • Update Rails and React code to implement database performance enhancements recommended by the DBA • Safely test, validate, and roll out major infrastructure and codebase changes alongside Platform and Feature Teams • Build telemetry and cost dashboards to monitor infrastructure performance and cloud spend • Expand application observability using metrics, structured logs, and distributed traces with OpenTelemetry • Extend and maintain custom OpenTelemetry wrapper libraries for new application tracing features • Build observability dashboards and alerts to monitor, manage, and prevent excessive telemetry data volumes • Own the day-to-day health, security, and stability of customer-facing Rails applications • Eliminate technical debt by replacing legacy code • Address security vulnerabilities by updating Ruby gems and npm packages • Participate in on-call rotations and support occasional scheduled weekend maintenance windows

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience • Deep hands-on expertise with Ruby on Rails in production environments • Proven experience executing complex zero-downtime upgrades, refactoring legacy codebases, and safely rolling out major platform changes without customer impact • Deep experience configuring APM, distributed tracing, structured logging, and actionable alerting metrics using modern telemetry frameworks such as OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, and Prometheus • Strong technical foundation in background worker systems including Delayed Job, Resque, and Sidekiq • Experience with relational databases including PostgreSQL and MySQL • Experience with Redis • Experience with modern frontend asset pipelines including esbuild, Vite, and Webpack • Ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally • Ability to document technical standards and bridge infrastructure specialists, DBAs, and feature engineering teams • Nice-to-have: Production experience with AWS services including ECS/EKS, RDS, Redshift, S3, ElastiCache, and SQS/SNS • Nice-to-have: Production experience with CI/CD deployment pipelines, GitHub Actions, Dockerfiles, and infrastructure-as-code configuration • Nice-to-have: Production experience with non-relational or multi-model databases such as MongoDB and SurrealDB • Nice-to-have: Exposure to containerized local AI tooling such as Ollama or similar open-source LLM runtimes
