• Grade various grain types, including wheat, oil seeds, and pulses • Provide technical guidance and training for inspectors • Communicate directly with grain elevators regarding grade issues and updates • Conduct laboratory analysis, grading, and data review according to the CGC guide • Receive, organize, store, distribute, and dispose of grain samples • Clean grain samples using Carter dockage testers and prepare them for grading • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment, including moisture meters, scales, protein testers, and ELISA readers • Monitor equipment according to required standards before analysis • Perform analyses including moisture, protein, dockage, test weight, mycotoxins, germination, gluten, and falling number tests • Maintain and monitor laboratory supplies and clean work areas • Issue initial and final grading reports for food, container, and industrial inspections • Prepare on-site final analysis and inspection reports • Inspect and grade all types of grain arriving at the laboratory or during on-site inspections • Conduct off-site grading, sampling duties, and ad hoc projects • Solve day-to-day production and process problems with supervisors or senior staff • Provide technical and operational guidance to junior grading staff • Review analytical data and report on-site inspection and grading results • Report findings to grain elevators • Conduct total grain inventory audits of weight and grade • Provide guidance and/or leadership to indirect reports, peers, and managers
• A minimum of a High School diploma • Over 5 years of experience as a Grain Grader Level 2 • Previous experience in performing preliminary grain inspections and grain grading would be an asset • Competent in performing all responsibilities of a Grain Inspector and a Grader Level 2 • Knowledge of and ability to follow the Canada Grain Act and Canada Grain regulations • Ability to follow CFIA protocol for sampling, CGC standards for sampling, SGS SOPs, and client-specific specifications • Ability to perform grain inspections, grain grading, laboratory analyses, data review, and reporting • Candidates applying for Canadian job openings should be authorized to work in Canada • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations
