📋 Description

• Implement a focused strategy to increase the visibility and recognition of elected officials who support bird conservation • Build constructive relationships with policymakers and their staff • Strengthen ABCAF's reputation as a trusted, nonpartisan conservation partner • Translate ABCAF's strategy into consistent, polished communications and light-touch engagement with elected officials and their offices • Coordinate recognition opportunities • Develop and distribute “Bird Champion” content and materials • Support rapid-response communications around positive policy developments • Maintain relationships with policymakers and partners • Help develop ABCAF's Bird Conservation Champions Awards (“The Birdies”) • Make bird-friendly leadership at local, state, and federal levels visible through email, web stories, and social media • Recognize and amplify positive actions by policymakers • Identify and support a small number of high-leverage policy opportunities • Develop recognition tools and experiences that elected officials are proud to share • Build toward a valued “Birdies” awards program for policymakers

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience in government relations, public affairs, advocacy, political communications, nonprofit policy, legislative affairs, or a closely related field • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce concise, compelling content for policymakers and public audiences • Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholders • Strong understanding of how elected officials and government offices operate • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines independently • Strong judgment about politically sensitive communications and stakeholder relationships • Ability to identify and act on opportunities without requiring extensive direction • Comfort working in a small, collaborative organization with limited resources • Commitment to nonpartisan engagement and constructive relationships across the political spectrum • Stable, high-speed internet service provider before beginning work • Ability to use cloud technologies, Zoom, and other automations • May be required to use a personal cell phone to access ABC systems remotely • Authorized to work in the US or Permanent Resident • Background screening required • Preferred: Experience working directly with congressional, state legislative, or local government offices • Preferred: Experience with conservation, environmental policy, agriculture, public lands, water, or related policy issues • Preferred: Experience developing recognition programs, awards, events, or stakeholder engagement campaigns • Preferred: Experience creating social media or digital communications for public officials or nonprofit organizations • Preferred: Existing relationships with policymakers, government staff, conservation organizations, or relevant coalitions • Preferred: Familiarity with 501(c)(4) organizations and the legal and strategic distinctions between 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) advocacy
