Assets Under Movement (AUM+) is a philanthropic infrastructure organization that moves capital in service of democracy and working people. Rooted in the legacy of the Amalgamated Foundation and the labor movement, AUM+ partners with individual donors, institutional funders, and collaborative initiatives to activate philanthropic capital quickly, flexibly, and with rigor. It provides donor services and grantmaking infrastructure — including donor-advised funds (DAFs), values-aligned investing, recoverable grants, collaborative/pooled funds, rapid response grantmaking, grants management, project incubation, compliance and governance support, and philanthropic advising — and emphasizes deploying capital (granting out over 75% of assets annually) to support movements and community-driven change.

📋 Description

• Support development and execution of AUM+’s External Affairs division • Strengthen how AUM+ connects strategy, external relationships, growth, communications, and emerging opportunities • Serve as a senior strategist and builder-leader reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer/EVP of External Affairs • Translate the CSO’s vision into clear priorities, phased work plans, measurable outcomes, deliverables, timelines, and resource recommendations • Support AUM+’s cross-functional strategic planning process • Develop and execute enterprise strategy aligned with AUM+’s mission, organizational priorities, and growth • Translate enterprise vision into strategic choices, priorities, and recommendations • Shape and sequence high-priority enterprise initiatives across operational, financial, legal, compliance, and readiness considerations • Develop decision-ready recommendations, business cases, scenarios, and tradeoff analyses • Develop the strategic narrative connecting AUM+’s lines of work • Build planning, sensing, research, and decision-making practices • Shape strategic communications and public affairs, including narrative strategy, thought leadership, executive visibility, and priority communications • Steward complex funder, intermediary, client, or ecosystem relationships • Evaluate new funds, fiscal sponsorship opportunities, partnerships, products, services, ventures, and other enterprise opportunities • Bring philanthropic, movement, policy, market, and partner intelligence into enterprise planning • Represent AUM+ in select external settings and share takeaways with internal stakeholders • Support incubation of strategic initiatives through initial strategy, governance, partnerships, resources, and leadership capacity • Partner with operational and functional leaders to incorporate capacity, infrastructure, resources, governance, and risk considerations • Translate approved direction into priorities, outcomes, guardrails, decision points, and execution handoffs • Identify implementation barriers, new evidence, and unresolved strategic choices • Connect enterprise strategic priorities to teams, capabilities, and resources for implementation

🎯 Requirements

• Twelve or more years of progressively responsible experience in philanthropy, social impact, movement infrastructure, a mission-driven intermediary, or another complex and evolving environment • Eight or more years of meaningful senior-level leadership experience • Demonstrated success managing and developing staff • Ability to operate in ambiguity without creating unnecessary complexity • Ability to distinguish what must be decided now from what can be tested and learned over time • Ability to collaborate across internal and external stakeholders and execute during organizational change • Proven track record contributing to cross-functional strategic planning or similarly complex organizational strategy processes • Experience translating ambiguity into clear choices and decision-ready recommendations • Experience building or significantly shaping a team, function, initiative, or organizational capability • Meaningful experience working within or alongside mission-driven intermediaries and fiscal sponsors • Experience evaluating or developing complex partnerships, funds, programs, products, services, or new lines of work • Deep understanding of the philanthropic and social impact sector • Deep relationships with diverse stakeholders within the ecosystem • Strong strategic communications and narrative development skills • Exceptional written and verbal communication, facilitation, synthesis, and executive-advisory skills • Sound judgment and discretion when navigating complex stakeholders, reputational, or sensitive environments • Ability to lead through influence across functions and levels, build trust quickly, and make clear recommendations amid competing perspectives • Deep commitment to racial, economic, environmental, and social justice • Meaningful understanding of organizing, advocacy, philanthropy, and power • Ability to successfully work across multiple technology platforms or systems with a posture of self-learning • Experience with impact investing or other mission-aligned capital strategies is a plus

🏖️ Benefits
