📋 Description

• Build and grow the engineering team for a government workflow platform • Own the engineering team, technical execution, and delivery accountability • Contribute hands-on in the codebase and investigate complex technical problems • Lead, coach, and grow full-time engineers, contractors, and an offshore agency partner • Run 1:1s and career coaching, set expectations, manage capacity, and build team culture • Set priorities, unblock the team, manage delivery commitments, and course-correct when needed • Own platform architecture and technical-debt decisions • Create documented technical and execution plans and communicate tradeoffs to executives • Set standards for code reviews, testing, deployment safety, delivery, and reliability metrics • Own uptime, incident response, and on-call structure • Partner with InfoSec and Compliance on security and compliance posture • Champion AI-assisted engineering tools and define governance for agent-generated code • Partner with Product, Delivery/Implementation, Customer Experience, and Solutions • Translate business priorities into engineering plans and technical constraints into actionable language • Participate in customer engagements when needed • Interview engineering candidates and help set the technical hiring bar • Plan, forecast, and manage team capacity

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years building software, with at least 2–3 years leading engineers directly • Still writing and reviewing code today • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems and cloud architecture • Demonstrable recent technical depth, including architecture design, production incident diagnosis, and correcting technical decisions • Track record of maintaining predictable quality and delivery • Experience leading a distributed team across time zones • Fluency with modern AI-assisted development • Comfortable in a growing startup environment • Strong internal and external communication skills • Experience at an early-to-mid-stage startup (bonus) • Experience in GovTech, public-sector SaaS, or another regulated, audited environment (bonus) • Experience building or scaling an offshore engineering function (bonus) • Based in San Francisco Bay Area or Washington DC (bonus)
