📋 Description

• Support the Controller on special projects, process changes, and system changes • Serve as the Controller’s go-to for one-off projects, analyses, and requests • Document and maintain Avicado’s accounting processes, chart of accounts, project structures, and cost structures • Identify gaps and risks early and bring options for resolution • Own project cost and revenue tracking, including allocation of labor and direct and indirect costs • Review project margins monthly, explain drivers, and flag projects that drift from expectations • Own the budget process with the Controller as final reviewer • Prepare and maintain budgets, drivers, assumptions, and variance explanations • Lead preparation for and response to government audits • Prepare audit-ready support for government-funded work, including labor charging and timekeeping • Respond to auditor requests and maintain indirect rate calculations and related submissions • Maintain and streamline month-end close procedures • Maintain the close calendar, lead the close to deadlines, and review account reconciliations • Use AI tools such as Claude to improve close procedures without weakening controls • Oversee invoicing, collections, payments, AR and AP reporting, vendor payments, and company credit card administration • Run payroll accurately and on time each cycle • Maintain federal and state payroll filing compliance • Prepare and review financial statements and budgets in accordance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field • Strong track record building and managing budgets • Solid project accounting background, including tracking cost and margin at the project level • Working knowledge of FAR cost principles • Experience with government audits or incurred cost work • Experience running day-to-day accounting operations • Experience supporting a system implementation or process change from the finance side • Proficiency with accounting and payroll software; Xero and Rippling preferred • Advanced Excel skills, including PowerQuery • Practical, regular use of AI tools such as Claude for analysis, reconciliation, documentation, and reporting • Good judgment on when to verify AI output • Strong analytical, organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills • Ability to explain complex numbers plainly • CPA is a nice plus but not required
