• Develop and implement category-specific sourcing strategies that deliver profitable growth • Manage the overall performance and health of assigned non-consumable product categories across Grocery, Food Service, Janitorial, and Processor segments • Manage brand strategy, private label development, and sustainable packaging product lines • Develop and manage strategic relationships with domestic and import manufacturers • Engage suppliers to develop and implement profitable-growth initiatives • Monitor category health, product lifecycles, market needs, trends, competitive products, and manufacturer production schedules • Develop category and market expertise, including market trends and competitive analysis, to support assortment strategy • Leverage market intelligence to validate and benchmark costs and competitive pricing • Develop best-value product opportunities • Develop pricing policies and negotiate best-cost vendor programs to improve margins • Rationalize and consolidate product lines to improve inventory turns and create volume cost improvements • Manage supplier relationships and execute supplier performance management initiatives • Manage multiple projects and initiatives, meet timelines, and provide proactive status communication • Establish category ownership with internal and external stakeholders • Support sales staff with special product requirements and costing • Improve go-to-market strategy and speed of new product implementation • Solve problems and recommend new and different packaging products
• Bachelor’s degree required • Master’s degree preferred • 5+ years’ experience in Category Management or relevant business experience required • Import procurement experience strongly preferred • Distribution experience strongly preferred • Solid knowledge of marketing and sales principles • Solutions-oriented thinker and doer • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Highly developed negotiation experience and best-in-class practices • Ability to assess and manage contractual, operational, financial, and business risk • Working knowledge of raw materials used in food service, janitorial, and processor packaging preferred • Existing working relationship with packaging material manufacturers preferred • Ability to work effectively across a matrix global organization • Ability to create a partnership atmosphere with internal and external resources • Exceptional EQ and influencing skills • Ability to work collaboratively across multifunctional teams • Strong relationship-building and credibility-building skills • Demonstrated ability to develop and drive recommendations through the organization • Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills • Strong analytical problem-solving skills • Ability to multitask and change direction quickly and often • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; mandatory • Located in the United States near a major airport
