• Conduct investigations, interviews, and damage inspections, driving to damage sites within the assigned territory or elsewhere if required • Prepare estimates and recommendations; handle coverage questions and litigation • Set and maintain reserves; review reports and related materials • Direct experts, determine coverage and claim value, issue or decline payments, and negotiate claims with plaintiff attorneys when necessary • Document claim files and submit reports for closure • Recognize subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action • Service the assigned territory and bring claims to conclusion • Interact with agents and district sales managers on matters of mutual concern • Assist the claims supervisor or act on the supervisor’s behalf, including representing the company at legal proceedings • Complete industry-related training and remain informed on policy changes, interpretation, and legislation • Assist in training new claims adjusters • Participate on the Catastrophe Team when required
• High school diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required; or bachelor’s degree and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required • Must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company • Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses • Successful completion of the Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required • Ability to serve on the Catastrophe Team, including short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks • Regular and predictable attendance required • Use of personal protective equipment required • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting-aide equipment • Ability to climb/access heights • Ability to drive frequently • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs • Ability to perform manual keying, data entry, computer use, and push/pull wheeled objects or equipment • Good time management and organization skills preferred
