📋 Description

• Lead the technical vision and execution across Octave’s data platform and emerging AI, machine learning, and Data Science capabilities • Own and evolve Octave’s data and AI/ML technical foundation • Set technical and strategic direction for AI/ML in partnership with Product and cross-functional business leaders • Build and manage the team required to execute the data and AI vision • Lead the Data Platform team and partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and business leaders • Define the technical strategy and roadmap for the data platform and AI/ML capabilities • Own company-level AI/ML and Data Platform KPIs and report progress to the executive team • Evaluate AI/ML opportunities, technical feasibility, tradeoffs, and approaches • Establish capabilities for developing, evaluating, deploying, monitoring, and improving production AI/ML systems • Establish practices for model evaluation, experimentation, observability, feedback loops, governance, privacy, security, and responsible AI • Own the architecture and evolution of the centralized data platform • Ensure the platform is reliable, scalable, observable, secure, and usable by downstream consumers • Establish data quality, testing, lineage, documentation, monitoring, and reliability practices • Build scalable interfaces and data products for analysts, Product, Engineering, and other teams • Enable decentralized analytics teams through shared standards, platform capabilities, and ownership models • Recruit, mentor, and develop Data Platform, Data Science, ML Engineering, and Applied AI talent • Remain hands-on with system design, architecture, data modeling, prototypes, code, technical evaluations, and production issues • Provide technical thought partnership to engineers, analysts, Product leaders, and senior company leadership

🎯 Requirements

• Strong technical foundation and prior experience as a highly capable individual contributor before moving into leadership • Strong understanding of traditional machine-learning and Data Science approaches and newer AI capabilities, including LLM-based systems and generative AI • Strong judgment around build-versus-buy decisions and ability to assess rapidly evolving technologies pragmatically • Excellent communication skills and ability to move between detailed technical discussions and senior business and product leader conversations • Comfortable operating in a small, fast-moving organization where senior leaders remain close to execution • 8+ years of experience building and leading data platform, data engineering, Data Science, ML, or AI capabilities in high-growth technology environments • Demonstrated experience architecting and building modern data platforms and production data systems • Meaningful experience applying machine learning and/or AI to real-world product or business problems and taking solutions from experimentation into production • Experience partnering closely with Product teams to identify and deliver technically sophisticated product capabilities • Demonstrated ability to diagnose organizational capability gaps, build new technical capabilities, and recruit senior, specialized technical talent • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer • Ability to frequently communicate through virtual meeting applications such as Zoom and Google Meet • Ability to observe and communicate information on a company-provided laptop • Ability to move up to 10 pounds occasionally
