📋 Description

• Serve as the company’s top legal advisor and strategic business partner to the executive team, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer • Oversee legal matters including contracts, corporate governance, compliance, and risk mitigation, with a focus on construction law and commercial contracting • Lead and develop the contracts function, managing the contracts team and partnering with Operations, Finance, Sales, and Executive Leadership • Oversee contracting across construction, hardware procurement, and SaaS-enabled services • Set contracting standards, approval authority, templates, and negotiation positions; handle high-value and complex agreements and strategic partnerships • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including contractor licensing, building codes, consumer protection, labor laws, and environmental standards • Assist with required permits and approvals • Identify contractual risks and liabilities and develop mitigation strategies • Manage claims, disputes, and litigation; select and direct outside counsel, manage legal spend, and lead mediation, arbitration, and other proceedings • Review and update corporate legal documents and internal policies • Advise HR and leadership on employment matters, agreements, and policies for a remote, multi-state workforce • Oversee privacy and data protection compliance for connected monitoring software and customer data • Advise on homeowner-facing agreements, warranties, product liability exposure, and marketing and advertising claims • Lead the legal and contracts department, develop automation and scalable processes, and manage outside counsel relationships

🎯 Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an accredited institution • Active membership and good standing with a state bar • Minimum 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including at least 3 years in-house • Proven experience in construction law, including complex construction contracts, defect claims, and related legal issues • Proven experience negotiating and drafting complex contracts • Demonstrated experience managing attorneys or contracts professionals, directing outside counsel, and managing projects • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills • Critical analysis, proactive risk identification, and solution development skills • Solid understanding of business dynamics and market trends specific to the construction industry • Comprehensive background check; employment offers contingent upon successful completion • U.S.-based and available to work PST/MST hours
