📋 Description

• Code and abstract diagnoses, procedures, and patient information from outpatient encounters, including ambulatory surgeries, and enter data into the hospital information system • Code inpatient encounters as applicable based on knowledge and experience • Verify abstracted hospital information fields for accuracy and completeness, correcting them based on the paper medical record • Prioritize outpatient and inpatient coding and abstracting responsibilities to keep coding current • Communicate with physicians or physician office staff when documentation is unclear or insufficient • Maintain coding proficiency through self-directed continuing education • Maintain knowledge of current trends, updates, and changes in coding policy and procedure • Provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from AHIMA; or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC) from AAPC; or Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) from the Radiology Coding Certification Board • High School diploma or equivalent • At least one to two years of coding experience • If assigned as Interventional Radiology Coder: at least one to two years of coding outpatient Interventional Radiology coding experience • Ability to operate a codefinder
