• Own profitability and growth for all Workers’ Compensation programs • Utilize traditional and innovative underwriting methods • Set and evolve underwriting strategy across assigned lines and programs • Balance growth with profitability and risk management • Cultivate relationships with carriers, reinsurers, reinsurance brokers, distribution partners, and other key stakeholders • Partner with Sales and Distribution to develop profitable growth strategies • Manage assigned programs’ books of business and achieve financial, business, customer, and performance objectives • Oversee underwriting guidelines and processes in collaboration with the Chief Underwriting Officer • Monitor claims activity and identify adverse development trends to inform pricing and appetite adjustments • Lead and mentor premium audit and program-specific underwriting teams • Champion process innovation to improve operational efficiency and customer experience • Monitor industry tools, technology, analytics, and best practices • Partner with Product and Engineering to build a scalable, efficient platform • Evaluate new product opportunities, coverage expansions, and program partnerships • Analyze portfolio performance and loss trends with Actuarial, Insurance Programs & Risk Capital, and Finance teams • Recommend pricing or risk selection changes with the National Underwriting Officer, Workers’ Compensation • Ensure compliance with state and carrier regulations • Execute carrier and regulatory audits regarding policy operations and underwriting guidelines • Contribute an underwriting and operating perspective to company-wide strategic planning • Report to the President • Perform other duties as assigned
• Expertise in Workers’ Compensation underwriting • Experience balancing growth with profitability and risk management • Experience overseeing premium audit teams and program-specific underwriting teams • Knowledge of underwriting guidelines, processes, and regulatory standards • Experience monitoring claims activity and adverse development trends • Experience with program pricing and risk selection • Experience cultivating relationships with carriers, reinsurers, reinsurance brokers, distribution partners, and other stakeholders • Ability to analyze portfolio performance and loss trends • Knowledge of state and carrier regulations and carrier/regulatory audits • Ability to partner cross-functionally with Sales, Distribution, Product, Engineering, Actuarial, Finance, Legal, and Compliance teams • Leadership, mentoring, accountability, and operational excellence capabilities • Full-time, salaried, exempt availability during standard business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some flexibility at manager’s discretion
