• Act as a subject matter expert and thought leader within the Data Platform domain • Define advanced data processing designs and structures for moving, storing, and maintaining high-quality data • Lead projects by managing timelines, coordinating teams, and communicating project statuses • Influence organizational direction through leadership and strategic collaboration • Establish and align data governance standards with industry best practices and requirements • Define the vision and strategy for organizational data engineering • Expand data warehouses and Lakehouse solutions for a healthcare data-focused enterprise • Configure and maintain Unity Catalog for data lineage, data quality, auditability, and data stewardship • Build data security protocols and solutions for identified and de-identified PHI/PII • Enforce least-privilege access management • Build reliable, high-quality, and performant external data products for clients • Build ETL solutions with Delta Live Tables and automate transformations • Develop enterprise medallion architectures • Build near-real-time streaming and batch processing solutions • Develop scalable solutions for structured and unstructured healthcare data • Build Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Asset Bundles • Collaborate with the business on cost-effective and transparent data solutions • Architect, build, maintain, monitor, and optimize robust data pipelines • Build data extraction, transformation, and loading infrastructure using SQL, Delta Live Tables, Python, Scala, and cloud-based big-data technologies • Design and implement internal APIs for data integration • Integrate external systems through API-driven ingestion processes • Develop APIs on Databricks datasets for internal system consumption • Integrate with external APIs including Salesforce, financial systems, HR systems, and other systems • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of FHIR-, OMOP-, and other standards-based data models • Assemble complex datasets meeting functional and non-functional business requirements • Maintain data models aligned with business objectives and privacy regulations • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver meaningful and valuable data • Gather requirements, propose solutions, create project plans, and forecast implementation efforts • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and provide best-practice guidance • Identify and implement process improvements, automation, infrastructure redesign, and scalability enhancements • Build analytics tools for operational efficiency and business performance insights • Create data tools for clinical, analytics, and data science teams • Investigate new tooling, develop implementation plans, and deploy necessary tools • Teach and mentor others on emerging technologies
• 15+ years of relevant experience designing, developing, and testing Data Platform solutions • Expert-level experience with Databricks and AWS • Expert-level experience with relational and non-relational databases, including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and DocumentDB • Experience managing and standardizing clinical data from structured and unstructured sources • Experience building and managing solutions on AWS • Expert knowledge of healthcare standards including FHIR, C-CDA, and traditional HL7 • Expert knowledge of clinical standards and ontologies including ICD10, SNOMED, NDC, LOINC, and RxNorm • Expertise in data models, data warehouses, and enterprise/product data lakes • Familiarity with APIs, ETL, data ingestion processes, and enterprise tooling • Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, security, monitoring, and release management • Experience managing large, disparate, identified and de-identified datasets from multiple sources • Experience building and deploying Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Asset Bundles, and GitHub • Experience collaborating with Data Science teams and building AI-based solutions • Ability to collaborate and communicate across technical and non-technical disciplines • Ability to work through ambiguous situations • Ability to teach and mentor others on emerging technologies • Customer- and business-centric approach • Ability to balance strategic and tactical needs • Driven, thorough, and self-directed • Ability to lead through influence and persuasion • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field (wish list, not required) • Health and Life Insurance business experience (wish list) • Professional-level AWS solution architecture certification (wish list)
