Maintenance of Way Equipment Services is a leading provider of railroad track maintenance and support equipment. Based in a 32,000 square foot facility, the company specializes in the sale, leasing, and overhaul of various types of heavy equipment and tools used for rail maintenance. They offer a wide range of services including equipment inspection, repair, and refurbishment, as well as certified FRA Hi-Rail inspection services. With a focus on providing reliable and cost-effective solutions, they cater to different stages of rail maintenance and production projects, ensuring equipment is work-ready and affordable.

📋 Description

• The Head of Engineering owns delivery execution, engineering performance and operational excellence across all engineering streams at Altery. • Manage all Delivery Leads (hiring, coaching, career progression) and build a culture of accountability and quality. • Run the Delivery Governance function: standards, processes and predictable execution against committed roadmaps across every stream. • Act as Major Incident Commander. Own release management, incident response and DORA / FCA operational resilience compliance. • Drive AI adoption across engineering, from capacity planning to incident detection, and measure the productivity gains it creates. • Allocate engineering capacity across streams, balance delivery against technical debt, and own cloud cost efficiency. • Build competency frameworks and career ladders, and co-own the Developer Experience programme with Platform Leads.

🎯 Requirements

• Significant experience leading engineering organisations at scale, with proven manager-of-managers experience. • Background in fintech, payments, banking, SaaS, crypto or another highly regulated, high-growth environment. • Fluent in delivery frameworks — DORA / DevOps metrics, SPACE, Developer Experience, flow metrics — and modern CI/CD practice. • Working knowledge of DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act), FCA Operational Resilience requirements, and incident management in regulated environments. • Hands-on experience driving AI adoption within an engineering organisation, with a way to measure what it actually improves. • Calm, structured decision-making under pressure, with strong stakeholder and commercial judgement.
