• Lead NPR’s individual and institutional giving organization, comprising approximately 20 employees across institutional giving, planned giving, individual giving, and donor recognition • Own delivery of approximately $75M+ in annual revenue and ensure accurate forecasting • Set portfolio strategy and capacity targets across fundraising teams • Build multi-year revenue projections with the Chief Development Officer and Finance • Establish moves management discipline, pipeline stages, advancement criteria, portfolio reviews, and accountability • Build pipeline reporting with Development Operations and use it to drive weekly and monthly decisions • Set quality standards for briefing materials, proposals, reports, and donor engagement strategies • Diagnose stalled donor relationships and address skill, capacity, strategy, or organizational gaps • Lead and develop five direct reports and build their management capabilities • Define fundraising excellence and establish coaching, training, evaluation, and advancement practices • Develop fundraisers into compelling representatives of NPR • Attend donor meetings as a coach and observer • Partner with the Chief Development Officer and People team on hiring, performance management, and organizational design • Oversee a tiered donor recognition system and build retention and upgrade stewardship practices • Identify and implement AI and automation efficiencies for research, preparation, drafting, and analysis • Partner with Digital Revenue & Operations to create a coherent donor experience across channels • Coordinate donor engagement with Member Station colleagues and the Network Growth team • Align fundraising priorities with editorial and executive leadership • In the first year, install pipeline standards, define fundraising excellence, launch tiered recognition, and free up frontline capacity
• 15+ years of professional experience, including 7+ years leading multi-team organizations and managing through managers • 5+ years in development, or relevant experience in enterprise sales, executive search, or another long-cycle, trust-dependent relationship discipline as a substitute • Demonstrated accountability for a comparable-scale revenue program with sustained year-over-year growth • Proven experience building pipeline systems and coaching practices that improved team performance • Fluency with pipeline data and CRM reporting • Working fluency with AI tools and a record of achieving practical efficiency gains • Strong listening, writing, and speaking skills • Ability to represent a complex organization to sophisticated audiences • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required • Understanding of complex fundraising organizations or federated nonprofit models preferred • Understanding of media/public broadcasting organizations and NPR’s relationship with Member Stations preferred • Experience leading teams through rapid growth or structural change preferred
