📋 Description

• Code inpatient and/or outpatient hospital records, ED records, Home Health & Hospice records, and/or professional fee services for reimbursement, research, and Federal regulatory compliance • Review current medical records and assign CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG codes according to UHDDS, CMS, Federal Regulations, and hospital and departmental policies • Abstract data for the QI department and provide information to The Joint Commission • Research medical records across multiple computer systems to complete coding timely • Identify lost documents, ensure all encounters are coded, and generate appropriate queries • Resolve pre-bill edits, denials, and other issues for assigned accounts • Maintain and disseminate current technical, legal, regulatory, and coding knowledge, including ICD-9/10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, and/or HHRG updates • Participate in departmental in-services and updates • Communicate issues to the EW Clinical Coding Manager and Supervisor • Maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate and average-to-high productivity based on PHS standards

🎯 Requirements

• High school diploma/GED required • Must have one of the following coding certifications at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with achievement of one of the coding credentials above within one year of hire • One-three years experience as a coder required • Computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Ability to use the internet and other electronic resources for research • Experience with an encoder preferred • Experience with an Electronic Medical Record preferred • Must maintain continuing education (CE) requirements per PHS policy
