📋 Description

• Code inpatient and/or outpatient hospital records, ED records, Home Health & Hospice records, and/or professional fee services for PMG specialty providers • Assign CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG codes for reimbursement, research, and regulatory compliance • Review patients' complete current medical records and apply appropriate coding according to UHDDS guidelines and CMS • Abstract data for the QI department and provide information to The Joint Commission • Research medical records across multiple computer systems to complete coding timely • Identify lost documents, ensure all encounters are coded, and generate appropriate queries • Resolve pre-bill edits, denials, and other issues for assigned accounts • Maintain and disseminate current legal, regulatory, and technical coding knowledge • Stay current with ICD-9/10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, and/or HHRG updates • Participate in departmental in-services and coding guideline updates • Communicate issues to the EW Clinical Coding Manager & Supervisor

🎯 Requirements

• High school diploma/GED required • Must have one of the following coding certifications at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with achievement of one of the coding credentials above within one year of hire • One-three years experience as a coder required • Computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Ability to use the internet and other electronic resources for research • Experience with an encoder preferred • Experience with an Electronic Medical Record preferred • Must demonstrate knowledge of coding multiple areas of service and/or specialties • Must maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate • Must maintain average to high productivity based on PHS Productivity Standards • Must maintain continuing education (CE) requirements per PHS policy
