📋 Description

• Develop firmware running on millions of devices deployed by industrial and enterprise customers • Evaluate and select hardware components, including SoCs, flash/RAM, and sensors • Bring up new hardware platforms and sensors from virgin silicon • Configure I/O and establish SPI, I2C, UART, and BLE functionality • Debug system initialization and validate hardware designs • Build peripheral drivers, secure bootloaders, device firmware updates, power management, and connectivity layers • Design protocols and hardware management for battery-powered sensors and gateways • Partner with electrical, product, full-stack, mobile, and quality engineers • Ensure firmware-generated data arrives intact and useful for customers • Contribute designs, reviews, and engineering practices that raise team standards • Help shape how Samsara works as it scales globally and across new offices

🎯 Requirements

• 2+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems on products shipped to real customers • Fluency in C • Solid bare-metal and RTOS experience, including Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or equivalent • Experience bringing up new boards and unproven hardware • Fluency in SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and ADC • Ability to use an oscilloscope, network analyzer, or RF spectrum analyzer • Experience spanning hardware, firmware, cloud, and quality from concept to shipped product • Ability to trace driver-level decisions to customer experience • Ability to write actionable design docs, review comments, and post-mortems • Experience iterating quickly with automated testing and maintainable code • Experience using AI in daily workflow • Experience with BLE, ideally at PHY level • Experience with LTE-M or NB-IoT modem integration, power state management, and certification processes such as FCC, PTCRB, and carrier approval • Experience with secure boot, firmware signing, cryptography, and key management • Experience with OTA/device firmware updates at fleet scale, including A/B partitions and rollback • Experience with Embedded Linux, Yocto or Buildroot, kernel drivers, and device trees • Experience with CAN and J1939 on commercial vehicles • Experience with Python and Bash for tooling and hardware-in-the-loop test automation • Understanding of electronics mass production and quality assurance processes • Track record of fixing production show stoppers
