• Oversee management and assessment of litigation pending against the Company nationally • Provide input to and manage outside counsel handling litigation • Attend arbitrations, mediations, court hearings, and trials as necessary • Manage litigation financial expenditures, reserving, and billing • Perform financial analyses to optimize case outcomes • Handle employment practices, general liability, auto, and bankruptcy claims and lawsuits, including higher-exposure matters • Handle and respond to employment practices attorney letters as needed • Complete legal research projects • Assist with drafting and implementing policies • Assist with reviewing training and advertising materials • Serve as primary contact for Risk Management on indemnity claims, tenders, discovery, pleadings, and settlement agreements • Manage the subpoena function and retention of outside counsel • Manage the summer legal intern program • Assist the Senior Vice President, Head of Litigation, North America, with monthly and quarterly reports, reviews, risk-management materials, reserve requests, and business-review slides • Maintain monthly trial, arbitration, and mediation calendars • Interact with insurers, brokers, and Group and Divisional Risk Management as needed
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school • Admitted to the bar in the state where the attorney resides • Minimum of ten years of practice • Preferably initial experience with a prominent national law firm before moving in-house • Preferably three years of in-house experience • Preferably first-chair trial experience • Required experience with employment law, general liability law, and auto claims • Broad legal knowledge across litigation, employment law, auto, and general liability law • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and Westlaw • Willingness to become proficient in the company risk management program and Legal Tracker billing programs • Ability to work independently with minimal assistance • In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations • Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives • Ability to present legal issues effectively to senior management • Excellent judgment and analytic skills with a solution-oriented approach • First-class interpersonal and communication skills • Must meet company standards for controlled substance testing and behavioral selection survey • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information • Required to travel on company business as needed • Physical and mental capacity to perform essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation
