📋 Description

• Run accurate, timely bi-weekly payroll in Gusto and Deel for employees and contractors • Maintain HRIS records for compensation, time off, benefits, onboarding, and offboarding • Set up payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, and unemployment insurance in new states • Reconcile failed filings and manage the HR virtual mailbox • Read and respond to vendor and government-agency correspondence • Serve as the confidential first point of contact for employee questions and employee-relations issues • Escalate issues to the Head of People when needed • Support benefits questions and open enrollment • Manage intake and processing of leaves, accommodations, and time-off requests • Review and update HR policies and practices for changing federal and state employment law • Oversee and improve onboarding and offboarding processes • Automate repeatable People Operations tasks with AI • Collaborate with Finance, Recruiting, IT, Operations, and managers across the company • Report to the Head of People • Help build scalable systems, processes, and self-service resources as the company grows

🎯 Requirements

• 4–7+ years of experience in People Operations or HR • Hands-on ownership of payroll • Experience running multi-state payroll and compliance • Experience registering a company in a new state • Experience responding to agency notices • Experience resolving failed tax filings • Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment law • Knowledge of FMLA and state leave programs • Knowledge of ADA accommodations • Knowledge of wage and hour rules • Exceptional attention to detail • Discretion, empathy, and sound judgment in sensitive employee situations • Ability to build systems and automate repeatable work • Excitement to use AI tools such as Claude • Ability to thrive in a fully remote, fast-paced environment and manage time-sensitive priorities • Experience in digital health or autoimmune/chronic condition space is a bonus • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Claude, Gusto, and Deel is a bonus • Ability to work in the United States; the application asks whether immigration sponsorship will be required
