Fraunhofer IIS is the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS), a leading applied research institute in Germany that develops integrated circuits, sensors, communications systems, audio and media technologies, imaging and X‑ray systems, and AI-enabled hardware and software solutions for industry and public sector applications. The institute focuses on transferring research into practical products and services across areas such as chip/IC design and supply chains, wireless and satellite communications (5G/6G, LPWAN/mioty), audio and video codecs, neuromorphic and edge AI, and smart sensing for industrial, medical, automotive and agricultural use cases.

📋 Description

• You advise G3C clients in preparing technology projects in the areas of chip design and heterogeneous integration. • Together with the G3C expert team, you conduct feasibility analyses, identify implementation partners and locate suitable infrastructure in the European pilot lines (in particular APECS). • You help companies without prior semiconductor expertise achieve product innovations through chip technologies. • You raise the visibility of the G3C offering through contributions at events (trade fairs, association meetings, conferences) and build contacts with SMEs, startups, investors and other partners. • You present the work and successes of the G3C in collaboration with the PR team on social media and the G3C websites. • You participate in meetings of around 30 European competence centres at various locations across Europe, visit competence clusters in Germany and network the G3C with the German chip design ecosystem. • You become familiar with the offerings of the European pilot lines and other implementation partners in Europe in order to advise your clients as effectively as possible.

🎯 Requirements

• Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Technical Computer Science (Computer Engineering), Industrial Engineering or a comparable qualification • Background in microtechnology (e.g., CMOS, MEMS, photonics), chip design or systems engineering • Several years of professional experience in your field, for example as a process engineer, chip designer or in the development of embedded HW/SW systems • Ideally, experience with both research institutions and commercial companies and contacts with key stakeholders in your field • Willingness to travel for business, e.g., for trade show appearances or events (including occasional weekends if required) within Germany and across Europe (approx. 20% travel) • Excellent written and spoken German and English.

🏖️ Benefits

• Exciting role: A highly meaningful and varied position contributing to strengthening Germany's and Europe's technological location. • Efficient collaboration: An interdisciplinary team of experienced experts with short decision-making paths, quick decisions and strong support. • We take your needs seriously: We support the best possible reconciliation of work and private life through flexible working hours and hybrid working. • Personal contact matters: Structured onboarding to help you expand your network and settle in well. • Alternative work locations (e.g., Duisburg, Dresden) can be arranged by agreement, provided regular presence in Berlin (approx. twice a month) can be guaranteed. • The weekly working time is 39 hours. • The position can also be filled part-time. • The position is initially limited to two years. An extension is intended. • Employment, remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD). In addition, Fraunhofer may grant performance- and success-related variable compensation components.
